After four days of sitting in her cell, doing nothing, Sabrina felt like she was just going to lose it. She didn't even do anything wrong! She had only been out past curfew, and since they wouldn't go find her parents, she was just stuck there. And it was really starting to drive her insane. It wasn't her fault that her family didn't have a phone yet - they'd just moved to their new home in the slums.
She spent most of the morning that day pacing and such. Nothing really interesting happened until that afternoon. Just after twelve thirty, the officer came in and opened her door. "Come on," he said gruffly. Without hesitation, she got up and walked out, not really sure what was going on. He led her through a few hallways until they reached a door. As he opened it, she saw that it opened on to a street corner.
He looked down at her seriously. "Go on, get out of here," he said. "And quit mooching off of our free shelter and food, mutt." Sabrina, happy to be finally let go, walked off without complaint. She walked down the sidewalk, seething with anger at the way she had been treated. After walking for about five minutes, she looked around and saw that she was lost in some section of the downtown she'd never been in before.
There were nearly no businesses or shops like there were by main street, and there weren't very many cars around. "Oh crap," she muttered, stopping to try to get her bearings. "Where am I?" She frowned and turned in the direction of the station, but couldn't even find her way back there.
So, stopping once again, she looked around for someone who could help her find her way back home. "Hello?" she called out. "Is anyone here?" She just hoped someone would lend a hand to a lost girl like her.
