APPEARANCE ███
James has sandy-brown hair and hazel eyes that usually appear to be more brown than green. He is of medium height and has a stocky build, especially in the arms. Summer freckles are spattered across his features. James is square-jawed and has light brows that make him seem perpetually cheerful. He looks a bit older than his seventeen years, a card he plays to its full advantages. He is not particularly handsome, but has a contagious smile and an attractive voice. See picture for more exact details. In addition to wearing usual clothes (trousers & shirt, taken from his father) James often wears a scarf of sorts and heavy work boots. He wraps his palms in cloth, an odd habit that he says helps protect them from the (usually) grunt work he does, but secretly James believes it enhances people’s first impressions.
███ PERSONALITY
James is definitely toughened to the street world since he spends pretty much morning to night there. He has an unusual way of either endearing himself to people or annoying the hell out of them. When he’s alone or with friends, he complains incessantly about his situation as it gives him a sense of security, but in the presence of his sister he sugarcoats as much as possible. James is rather open with everyone. Despite practically living on the streets, James really doesn’t have any particular skills that he could use to protect himself, but his friendly persona and convincing manner of speech usually ensures that he gets along with people and helps him cover errors that he makes when speaking to people.
James is quite protective of his sister Emma, despite a six year difference between their ages. He refuses to let her get out and work, and shelters her as much as possible. He’s quite a sap for children in general.
History & Extra ███
James was born in the suburbs and grew up there with his mother, father and younger sister Emma. He lived a pleasant lifestyle, albeit simple, until the market crashed and he was sent away to live with cousins for the summer. When James returned, his parents had become addicted to the rogue, leaving his sister hungry and the bills unpaid. Soon, his parents sold their house and possessions for what little they could get for money to buy rogue, and James’ family ended up in the slums. Forgetting about their children, his parents value the rogue over James and Emma. Forced to provide for at least his sister, James searches the streets for work each day, waiting in breadlines, collecting stamps, any kind of money or food that will keep the shreds of his family together. Having seen firsthand the effects of rogue, James has never tried it (and consequently does not allow Emma to try it either) and if asked would deny drinking it, but he keeps his opinions neutral in public as it usually optimizes his chances of meeting people.
