"Alchemy is a science, and I am a scientist. This isn't magic or witchcraft, and anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying or is too misinformed to realize that he's been lied to as well." ~ Meet Peri. ~ Name: Perenelle Hyde, Peri to friends.
Age: nineteen
Gender: female
Birthdate: March 15 (Pisces)
Occupation: apprentice alchemist
Social Class: upper-class
Relationships: {WIP!}
_♓________run on the wheel, jog through the maze
Perenelle's looks are, in a word, ordinary. She is pretty, in a conventional sort of way, but there's nothing especially different or unique-looking about her. She has fair skin and green eyes, and her slightly wavy brown hair is cut to chin-length and is usually held in place with an Alice band. She is rather tall (5'10") and thin (a lady never tells) for her age, and carries an air of slightly awkward earnestness, telling of someone who spends more time around books than people.
With clothing, function is always Peri's first priority due to her work, although fashion isn't entirely out of the question. The typical outfit for her is usually a simple blouse and a knee-length skirt, sometimes paired with a sweater vest depending on the weather, and simple, flat-heeled shoes. She tends to favor cool and neutral colors, off-whites and blues especially. The only jewelry she wears is a small gold locket and the occasional brooch.
i'll break the seal maybe one of these days________♓_
Perenelle is a very private person. She's not antisocial or shy, certainly; she is quite friendly and often enjoys an intelligent conversation. She just has very little reason to share her feelings or opinions; she doesn't feel that they're particularly important to anyone, so she keeps them to herself. She's more the passive and agreeable sort, not the type to raise a fuss. She rarely gets into arguments, and when she does, she usually caves in to the other party in order to prevent a conflict.
While Peri can be very serious-minded, she can just as often have a spacey, directionless manner. Her attention span can be a fickle entity at times, and she hates it. She has a strong work ethic, and has trouble resting until a task is finished. Despite her easily-distracted nature, she's quite intelligent and perceptive, with a knack for noticing details.
_♓______________________boil it down, flatten it out
Ever since Perenelle was young, it was clear she was perfect stock for the business of alchemy. A gifted, privileged child with a sharp mind and a thirst for knowledge, it was only natural that she would be pushed into pursuing the most noble of sciences. After a chance encounter with a distinguished alchemist, her parents shipped 12-year-old Peri off to New York to learn his craft. She threw herself into her apprenticeship wholeheartedly, eager to learn from the best of the best. She hasn't been in touch with her family since.
Due to her parents encouraging her studies rather... actively, Peri ended up a rather sheltered child. She never seemed to mind much, since her books and her imagination provided her with all the companionship she needed.

"You don't just down a bottle of weird shit just because some dope in a funny hat tells you to. Basic common sense, people." ~ Meet Sinclair. ~ Name: Margaret Sinclair. Calling her anything other than Sinclair is a one-way ticket to the afterlife of your choice.
Age: twenty-four
Gender: nonbinary/genderqueer
***Writer's note: basically, Sinclair's gender identity doesn't fit into the male/female gender binary. While she is physically female and dresses/presents as masculine, she doesn't fit in with either identity. She uses feminine pronouns for herself mostly for convenience's sake, but doesn't really care what pronouns anyone else chooses to use.***
Birthdate: August 8 (Leo)
Occupation: pianist at the Burlesque
Social Class: lower-ish class. She lives at the Burlesque and makes enough to get by, but she spends most of her paycheck on clothing.
Relationships: {WIP!}
_♌_________and the man in the back said everyone attack
Sinclair appears as a handsome, androgynous invividual of short stature, standing at 5'6" with wide shoulders contrasting against the rest of her slender build. Her often-messy red hair is cropped short, and hazel eyes dominate a well-proportioned face.
While she is reluctant to admit it, Sinclair does pay special attention and care to her wardrobe. At work, she is never seen in anything other than her trademark garb of a black three-piece suit and a bowtie. Her day-to-day attire is a more simple affair-- just a shirt, slacks, a necktie, possibly a waistcoat or suspenders-- less formal, but still quite sharp. During the colder months, she typically dons an oversized navy blue overcoat, likely a hand-me-down from some older relative.
and it turned into a ballroom blitz_______________♌_
Sinclair isn't a terribly agreeable person, to put it bluntly. She values honesty far above tact, and in conversation is prone to dry wit and sarcasm. Her primary vice is impulsiveness, not always thinking her words and actions through before executing them, and combined with the occasional flare in temper it has a lot of potential to get her into sticky situations. She is a difficult person to befriend, but she is loyal-- even affectionate, depending on the individual-- to those who have gained her trust.
Problem-solving has always been one of Sinclair's most valuable assets. She has a no-nonsense attitude when it comes to approaching most situations, preferring to dispense with details whenever possible and just get to the core of the matter. While she has an open mind, she still clings surprisingly strongly to familiar things and ideas; she is rather superstitious despite her otherwise skeptical outlook, and her grudges can last for months or even years.
Despite her demeanor, Sinclair is extremely preoccupied with how she appears to others, and she tends to beat herself up if she doesn't live up to her own standards. Working at the Burlesque has also left her with a neurotic streak a mile wide, not only from the concerns of keeping her job in a bad economy, but the fact that the job itself could get her arrested for aiding in criminal activity.
_♌_________and the girl in the corner said boy I want to warn you
Young Margaret never quite fit into the expected gender norms of her day. Every attempt by her family to instill her with feminine ideals seemed to fail: classes in ladylike behavior were deliberately interrupted, dresses were only worn under the threat of being grounded, and dolls consistently found themselves reenacting World War One in the garden. Needless to say, no one besides Margaret was particularly thrilled by this, her parents especially and the dolls least of all. The only thing that seemed to stick was music lessons: she turned out to have a surprising knack for the piano, as well as a more moderate talent with the violin. These skills got her enrolled in numerous recitals throughout her childhood, which, unluckily for her, only meant more dresses and parties.
Sinclair abandoned her embarassing given name and took on a more suitable appearance when she moved to New York, free of the preconceptions of the residents of her small hometown. In yet another stroke of bad luck, the stock market crash happened only a few months after her arrival in the Big Apple. With no home and no skills to get her ahead in the poor economy, she ended up busking for a while before she was hired to join the Burlesque's band on piano. She actively started presenting as male from then on, due to her own concerns about, well, being female-bodied and working in a burlesque club. But things could be worse, and it's better than being homeless and screeching out Christmas carols on a shoddy fiddle for some pitying soul's spare change. She certainly knows better than to complain.
